Unsung User Experience Heroes — You

We live in a world of faceless corporations. It is so easy to forget that real people are behind that phone you use, that cup of coffee you bought, that car you drive. And that’s because companies work hard to carefully project a tailored and filtered image. People are generally not tailored or filtered. (Hence how hard it is to be a politician.) People are imperfect, say the wrong thing, look the wrong way, etc.

And yet… it’s those imperfections that make us human. Relatable. Real.

At some point in your user experience, it’s important to put the real people who created it right in the software. There’s no better way to humanize your software. Your technology is an expression of your hopes, desires, aspirations, and dreams. Putting yourself, the real you, into the experience (even in a small way) is a real advantage in forming a relationship with your audience. One that will last, and will ultimately help you stand out from the competition.
