Attention those who need work/cash – part-time bookkeeping position available

I’m pretty sure it’s a good sign that things are so busy here at the old fish market (did I really just say “the old fish market?”) that we need help dealing with the books. Since our inception I’ve dealt with all this myself much to the dismay of my business partners. I think they thought that maybe there were other things I should be doing. Personally I’ve enjoyed doing the books because I’ve learned what’s involved and have a much better sense for how that part of the business functions. Learning is one of the perks of running your own company and I’ve enjoyed it. But now we definitely need some part-time help doing the bookkeeping.

Us:

  • A small Seattle-based startup, producing lovely and fun web apps for consumers
  • Working on our next web app, we hope it’s our best one yet
  • In need of help managing the day-to-day operations of our business
  • Funny, smart, reasonable, flexible, honest, not jerks

You:

  • Good with numbers, math, etc.
  • Have some reasonable bookkeeping experience
  • Comfortable with computers, excel, and small business accounting packages (we use lessaccounting.com – way easier than quickbooks)
  • get obsessive about finding that last penny to make sure everything balances perfectly (yay accuracy!)
  • Want to get involved with a neat small web startup
  • Have ~3-6 hours a week available on a consistent basis
  • Can be trusted implicitly with our small but precious finances :)
  • Probably early in your bookkeeping experience as our pay is on the low end (we’re a bootstrap after all)
  • Nice, smart, patient, flexible, not a jerk

The Gig:

  • accounts payable
  • accounts receivable
  • journal entries
  • bank reconciliations
  • collections
  • financial statements
  • cash flow
  • special projects (especially around tax time)

If any of this sounds like a fit… let us know. Send us e-mail with a short paragraph telling us a) why you’re right for the job, b) why you think we’d be a cool company to work for. If you’re the one, we’ll pay you, let you dazzle us with your accounting wizardry, and let you partake of our snacks and Wii games in an unlimited fashion.
