Something About Delayed Gratification
Last night the entire Jackson Fish Market staff went to the Police concert here in Seattle.
The concert made us feel old. The opening act with Sting’s son on vocals was craptastic. The concert was in a basketball arena making it sub-optimal in terms of sound. Stewart Copeland looks like Christopher Llloyd from Back to the Future. And they played the yucky remix version of Don’t Stand So Close to Me instead of the original.
And still… the only thing I can say is that the concert was frigging awesome.
The Police put out five albums before they broke up. Their last was arguably the peak of their collaboration (with only Every Breath You Take heading over the precipice). They broke up and haven’t played live for 25 years. Then with this incredible catalog (and no new album full of crappy songs to promote) they put on a fantastic, energy-packed, generous two hour show of every song we’re dying to hear.
I’m not sure what to say other than it was very very cool to be in a room with approximately 17,000 incredibly happy people.

Ah the memories! Saw the Police and the Go-Go’s in 81, wow what a show that was. Saw them again in 84 on tour w/Madness and the Thompson Twins…
… I just made myself feel old.

I played ‘Message in a Bottle’ on Guitar Hero, that’s about all I got :)
