Little Touches Are Important

Sometimes when you’re creating something it’s important to add little gratuitous touches that give the creation character. These can be moments of whimsy, or moments of seriousness, but most importantly they don’t require a practical purpose. There’s a small touch of coolness that got added to this site. I wonder who will find it first. (Hint: it’s on every page.)

the header changes with the time of day … right now, i am looking at your web site at 10:03 PM my time and the sky is now dark and the lamp lights are on … in the day, it is bright and light and the sky changes.

    You got it. :)

(Also during the day, keen observers will note that the streetlamps recede hydraulically into their wells in the sidewalk. This was standard practice in the 1940s, alas no examples of these receding lamposts survive today.)

    I love this touch!
Btw, have you seen the evolving logo by the Max Planck Insitute for cell biology/genetics that changes every time it’s rendered based on cellular automata? http://www.we-make-money-not-art.com/archives/009179.php
