We’re simple software folk here at Jackson Fish Market. We’re not perfect, but we’re trying hard to make nice stuff that people like to use. And when a new platform comes along that people have worked hard on, we’re happy to give it a shot. Luckily, the new Windows Phones from Microsoft are not just a result of hard work, but a pretty impressive first effort at reimagining the mobile platform from Microsoft. This new rendition has the benefit of a bunch of solid Microsoft technologies (Silverlight, XNA, etc.) at its core, and the UI is slick, innovative, and frankly… different. It’s not a knock-off. And that’s something we respect. (On a personal note, the folks at Microsoft were also great to work with. We’ve never seen more conscientiousness around the apps that go on a platform vendor’s OS. Pretty amazing actually.) And so, to celebrate the launch of the new Windows Phone, we’re trying to do our small part by contributing 2 brand new Windows Phone apps to the new ecosystem. And both are exclusives to the new platform.

Hush Hush — Personal Journal and Diary is your very own personal diary for your Windows Phone device. Bound in fine leather and with a combination lock, this diary lets you keep your innermost thoughts and even photos private. Stickers to denote your mood as well as date-specific entries from wikipedia make your journal more interesting and fun to look at. Scan your entries via Hush Hush’s timeline view for easy browsing.

Kitchen Toolkit – Cooking Helper is several tools in one for the home cook. The app includes a kitchen timer (to remind you when your dish needs to come out of the oven), a unit converter (handy for various recipes with different measurement units than you have at home), and two meat charts detailing the cuts of beef and pork. Think of Kitchen Toolkit as the “Swiss army knife” for the home chef.
