Chad Vader and It’s Jerry Time

I know that many people would say that Saturday Night Live hasn’t been funny in years. But I’ve found that there’s been enough to keep me watching relatively consistently over the years despite the shows ups and downs. This year however, with the exit of Tina Fey, the writing has gone in the toilet. 30 Rock has benefited but the only redeeming things on SNL these days are Andy Samberg’s short films (the funniest of which aren’t even aired) and when Alec Baldwin hosts.

On the other hand there’s Chad Vader. It’s super amusing and way better than, say… the horrible and endlessly recurring “Two A-holes” series of skits that show up on SNL. So here’s my question. Why is Saturday Night Live not trolling the net for folks like the ones who produced Chad Vader and putting their work on SNL? And if it’s not Chad Vader, then how about It’s Jerry Time? Which funny short video series you like isn’t the point. The real question is why SNL isn’t taking advantage. If I worked for a competing network, I’d go up against SNL head-to-head in their timeslot with an army of these independent video producers. I’d also give it an American Idol style audience voting component. And of course I’d put every bit up on the net.
